High Quality Care and Education
Today, 71% of Guilford County’s infants, toddlers and preschoolers spend many of their waking hours at early care and education centers so their parents can work. However, at an average cost of $902 per month for infant care in Guilford County, high-quality care is not affordable for many families. Our ambitious goal is to make high-quality early care and education accessible and affordable to families of ALL young children.
At the same time, qualified early childhood educators with degrees are leaving the field because they earn about $10 per hour for their work, making it increasingly challenging for early care and education centers to hire the people they need.
Guilford County’s Early Childhood Workforce Design Team developed a strategic plan that provides a roadmap for addressing these complex issues. Parents, early childhood educators and community leaders are implementing the plan.
